A Little Video {an Official Hello}

Happy Sunday!

So I’ve busted out the video camera and I’m ready to start creating a few how-to videos for you, you know–for all of those techniques that are much easier to learn by watching, and just to switch things up from time to time. But, before I make my first cake video tutorial, I thought I’d say a quick hello. I’m actually not certain why I didn’t do this sooner, but either way, a message from me to you. And why do I feel as though I’m about to reveal myself to my long-time Internet boyfriend who’s never seen the real-life me? No, I don’t have any of those, but whoa–this must be how that feels. So, um . . . hi:

Sweetapolita’s Notes:

  • My kitchen is never, ever that clean.
  • My voice is about 1 1/2 octaves lower than you just heard. (Or at least that’s what I keep telling myself.)
  • The hair is usually wing-esh, but not sure what was going on there.
  • I feel like we’ve just taken things to the next level, and . . . I kind of like it.
  • Did I mention I love you guys?

I hope your weekend was filled with muse and magic, or at least a good slice of cake or two. ♥

I’ll see you soon with, yep, another video, but also a new cake blog post.

Happy Baking!

I love you Rosie! I moved to Montreal from Los Angeles when I got married a few months ago. I miss all my favorite bakeries (and my family and friends)! If you visit LA, be sure to go to Sweet Lady Jane, Sprinkles, Huckleberry… the list goes on.

Thank you so much for your blogs and recipes. I have been able to bake my favorite cakes and it has eased the adjustment to such a foreign place. I have to thank you for helping me stay sane and satisfy my sweet teeth :D

  2. Cindy says

Aww, I love this video! So nice to “meet you” and I can’t wait to see what other videos you post.

  3. Nancee says

I made your perfectly delightful vanilla birthday cake this weekend and it came out great. I took your advice and weighed all my ingredients and it came together beautifully. Thanks so much for sharing your talents with us. :)

So, Miss Sweetapolita hold on to your whisk cause I think you are in for the ride of your life! All of us who have followed you along the way will surely be cheering you on. Good luck! Is that really your family? They are too cute. I have a 2 year old daughter anda 4 years old son. I draw a lot of inspirations from your site (and what you do with the girls). Can’t wait to see what you do for their 21st or wedding cakes :)
Keeping an eye on you from Sydney

Ya know…. that was my first thought when I watched this. “DANG her kitchen is CLEAN… I wonder if it’s just that way for the video?” hahaha Glad to know that was the case! A happy bakers kitchen is NEVER clean like that ALL the time! <3

  10. says

    Hello Rosie,

Thanks so much for the hello! Can’t wait for the how to videos to start! I’m crazy about your blog- there’s so much happiness and passion here. Thanks so much!

I’ve been following Sweetapolita for a while but this is the first time I’ve ever left a comment! First of all, thank you so much for your generosity in sharing your scrumptious recipes, your attentive kindness in adding as many tips as possible for us not to repeat any errors you made while testing the recipes and for taking the time to write these lovely posts, sprinkled with tidbits of your everyday life and pics of your absolutely adorable girls. I’ve made the Dark Chocolate Salted Caramel Cake and your recipe for SMBC has received raves from everyone! Again, thank you for making my life that much sweeter:) God bless you!

  12. says

We love you too Rosie! Videos are such a great idea, I’m awful at following written directions and I find it so much easier when I can actually see what I’m supposed to be doing so I’m really excited for these!

  13. says

Greetings from Portugal. I’ve been an avid reader of your blog since two years ago. I’m a mom of two (a boy and a girl) and you don’t inspire me only with your cakes and sweet stuff but also with the adorable photos of your princesses, and the love you have for your family. It was nice to “meet” you in a different prespective.

  14. says

That’s so great to be able to see you “for real”, you have tons of fans here in France too ! Can’t wait to see you in action because I learned how to make beautiful cakes with SMBC thanks to you ! Oh and I love the pink cookie box behind you :-)

  15. Noona says

Rosie! Thank you for this – what a surprise. You really are ridiculously adorable. Looking forward to learning even MORE from you. Would love a cameo from your kiddos sometime.

  16. says

Nice to meet you Rosie. I made your Perfectly Delightful Vanilla Cake for my husband’s birthday (so no pink!) yesterday – my first ever attempt at decorating – and was searching for tips on decorating, so you obviously read my mind. The cake is fabulous, by the way!

  17. Michaela says

I’m so excited you will be posting how-to videos! I made my first ‘real’ cake this weekend (your fluffy vanilla cake with SMB) and it turned out great! I love your blog and look forward to learning more from you through video.

  18. says

I made a 6-layer Neapolitan cake with strawberry buttercream and a chocolate glaze for my mom’s birthday Saturday! Your blog has really taken my baking to the next level! I used a turntable and bench scraper to really get the sides smooth, and it just looked amazing!

  19. Valerie says

Rosie, you are one of my favorite bloggers, not only because of the great cake recipes and all the great tips and know-how, but also because of your fun and sweetapolita personality that shines through your posts. So, I’m delighted to see you in action and hear your voice (which BTW sounds just fine!). Thanks for the blogging!

  22. Kelly-Jo says

Love that you are doing the videos now! I’m a very visual learner and this is so wonderful. I think all of us “bakers and cakers” are very “sweet” people! I find that our wonderful group is so willing to say our secrets and tricks of the trade and spread out the baking love. It’s so nice to be involved with such a great group. For me baking is showing and sharing love.

  23. says

I was so cared at first.

Yes, it was just like I was going to see my internet boyfriend for the first time, gulp! hahahahehee ;)

  31. says

Oh Rosie, this video is too cute – and I love your notes below it. I can sooo relate to the kitchen status one and you just made me feel so good. I always think that I am bad but no matter how much I clean, I bake more and it does leave some spots unclean at all times (rotating :-)
Looking forward to those videos! Hi from Budapest, Hungary

    Hi Rosie,

Great to finally meet you! I love your recipes and your explanations are so easy to follow. It’s odd, but before I saw this video, I had always thought of you as having a British accent. I have no idea why- maybe it’s the way you write some things. Anyways, thanks so much for sharing your fabulous recipes.

I’m a newbie at baking (to a degree, no pun) and at photography (Cannon Rebel). I look forward to scoping out your site more.
